The Covid-19 crisis has left many stuck at home, but that doesn’t mean your mental health needs to suffer. Instead of canceling their mental health appointments, many have turned to online therapy like Telehealth. online mental health therapy

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is virtual therapy that takes place online via video conferencing.  Through the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Endeavors in El Paso, Killeen, and San Antonio, we offer discreet online video counseling sessions for Veteran mental health from the comfort of your home or office.

How common is Telehealth?

Our Telehealth program has been around for some time; however, stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures due to COVID-19 has caused a huge spike in Veterans and military families utilizing Telehealth. Total sessions at the Cohen Clinics have increased 400% from January 2019 to date.

Are Telehealth sessions confidential?

Thanks to our secure, private, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing software, confidentiality is ensured when using Telehealth. All information about Veterans and military families is confidential and is collected, protected, and stored according to standards set by federal law. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Defense, and other public, private, or government entities do not have access to identifying information about Veterans and military families who are treated at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Endeavors.

What’s the cost of Telehealth?

Online therapy via Telehealth is available at low to no cost.

What kinds of mental health conditions can be treated via Telehealth?

Through our Telehealth services, you can find care for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, sleep problems, adolescent behavioral issues, relationship and family stress, transitional challenges, and other concerns.

What types of mental health treatments are used with Telehealth?

CVN provides evidence-based treatments such as cognitive processing therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, problem-solving therapy, couples therapy, and prolonged exposure therapy, as well as connecting them to support and referrals for assistance with issues like unemployment, housing, finances, and education.

Is Telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?

Therapy via Telehealth has been shown to be equally as effective as in-person therapy. One 2018 study published in the Journal of Psychological Disorders called online cognitive behavioral therapy “effective, acceptable and practical.” The study found the online cognitive behavioral therapy was equally as effective as a face-to-face treatment for major depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

What do I need to access Telehealth?

To connect, clients need a secure internet connection and a device like a smartphone, computer, or tablet with audio and video capabilities.

Who is eligible for Telehealth?

Telehealth is available to all post-9/11 Veterans, including National Guard and Reserves, regardless of role in uniform, discharge status, or combat experience and military family members, as determined by the Veteran.

Can my family receive Telehealth treatment?

Veterans, their families, and families of active duty service members are eligible to receive Telehealth. Eligible family members include spouses or partners, parents, siblings, adolescents, caregivers, and more.
